Windows Won't Connect to Hotel or Public Wifi

Today's world is a mobile world. This means just about everyone in the developed world has personal computers with them at all times. As we go from place to place you inevitably connect to a public Wifi or HotSpot. Hotels and restaurants are common places I connect to these open networks.

Windows Wifi Networks

I tend to run into issues connecting to these networks when they require an authorization via a web page. At least half the time my Windows machine fails to launch the web page. I know I am not the only person experiencing this issue so I thought I would share something that helped me get on some recent networks.

Before you get so frustrated you reboot your machine or tether off your phone, turn your Wifi off for about 10 seconds. Then turn it back on and attempt to connect to the network.

Disabled Windows Wifi

I am not sure why this works, but I have had good luck trying this lately. This has not solved my issues 100% of the time, but I would rather try this before going through an expensive reboot. Maybe this will help you out as well.

Finally I only seem to have this problem with Windows desktop. My mobile devices seem to be able to consistently connect to these network types. However being mobile devices the experience is excruciatingly slow. But this is the price we pay for free I guess.
